I had such an amazing time at this school and within the 5 weeks I was there, I think I learned more than I did in 4 years in high school. The teachers are amazing and really want you to succeed. The personalized lessons were very thorough and I am very pleased with my experience. I am actually continuing my lessons through Skype and I'm so excited to be doing so. This was an amazing experience that I believe anyone who wants to learn a language should go through.Show details » Read more...
I loved my teacher. He was very attentive to my needs as a student. I spent 2 weeks at the Guacamaya Spanish School before going on to work as a nurse for a year in another location in Honduras. My teacher frequently incorporated medical terminology into my lessons and had me practice new grammatical concepts using situations I might encounter while speaking with patients, doctors, or other nurses. I liked that I could move at my own pace and I got a lot out of my class time. I also enjoyed how simple and easy it was to set up excursions and activities through the school´s director. Every morning, I looked forward to going to class and exploring Copan.Show details » Read more...

Say hi to everyone there for me.
I had a wonderful experience at Guacamaya School! My teacher, Karla, was awesome and very good at teaching me in a way that fit my learning needs! She helped me be more confident in speaking Spanish. I liked that she would start the classes off with by having a conversation, really getting me to practice what I had learned the day before, and building on my previous knowledge! The course book was great as well in helping my practice what I learned that day! The classes took place outside in a beautiful garden! All the teachers were very friendly! It was a wonderful experience and I would recommend this school to anyone wanting to learn Spanish!Show details » Read more...

Have a nice day.
The Guacamaya Spanish School was a truly enjoyable experience for me, with well-taught and encouraging lessons that after only 2 weeks left me with a very positive outlook on continuing to study and work on Spanish once I returned home.
The homestay was a tremendous experience for me, with great meals 3 times a day and a secluded, clean, and inviting atmosphere to work on homework and just hang-out.
Copan Ruinas is a gem of a town, with lots to do and see, very friendly inhabitants, and has a great feel when just walking around/doing errands/buying things etc. I can easily see why a lot of people continually return here, staying for long periods at a time.
If you're looking to study Spanish, I really do recommend Guacamaya Spanish School in Copan Ruinas as a place to attend. My teacher was Luis and I would also definitely recommend studying with him if you're given the option!
Just to say thank you for writing this review of your time here with us.

During my trip to Guatemala and Honduras, I attended three different language schools, including one very well-known and respected school in Antigua. My experience at Guacamaya Spanish School was by far the best. My instructor, Luis, was excellent. He was very patient with my struggles to express myself in beginning Spanish. He was very clear in his explanations and corrections. Finally, he had a good sense of humor which made the four hours of lessons each day very enjoyable.
I really appreciated the thoughtfully organized workbook with structured, progressive homework assignments, and I really appreciated that Luis wrote down for me his examples and explanations of rules as he talked. I am using both sets of written material here in the U.S. Overall, I felt I made a great deal of progress in one week. I am hoping I will be able to return for more lessons next year.
The school's location and facilities were fine. I especially liked access to the internet. I didn't take part in any activities through the school. (To be honest, I was not aware of any, but I had my own sightseeing agenda, anyway, and didn't inquire.) Because I made arrangements to attend the school at the last minute, I ended up staying at a hotel, which was OK, but next time I will try to stay with a family.
Finally, I appreciated the school's flexibility in allowing me to have my final lesson on Saturday morning so that I could take an all-day trip on Friday.

The Guacamaya Spanish school in Copan Ruinas is the best place to start your trip/mission/volunteer year in Honduras. The classes are 1 on 1 single lessons in which you are challenged every day. My Spanish increased a great deal and I really loved the atmosphere in the huge garden-class. My teacher was very motivating and patient with me. Apart from the school, many good trips and activities are offered and well organized. My host family also welcomed me like a family member. I would recommend everyone to take this unique opportunity. Although the price is not cheap, it is worth every single penny.Show details » Read more...
