Course description

Purpose and Goals
In today’s global economy, much of the world’s communication occurs in English and many people worldwide need English language skills to thrive. As such, our center’s major emphasis is high-quality English instruction.

In our General English Program, the focus is on interactive, conversational English and not teacher lecture as in traditional ESL centers. In fact, teachers practicing our methodology limit themselves to speaking no more than one-third of the class time and encourage students to converse in English in the remaining time. Of course, teachers clarify grammar, introduce new vocabulary and work on reading strategies, but the emphasis is always on spoken communication. Our program allows students to develop their verbal English skills as quickly and effectively as possible. This speed and focus is what makes Bridge the clear choice for so many in their search for an English language center.

Student Profile
Our General English Program students range in age from 18 to 50+ and are our most diverse group. Many are here to learn English for a variety of personal reasons and to experience life and culture in the US. Others are business professionals wanting to improve their communication skills in English.

If you want to experience American culture as well as learn English, we recommend staying with an American host family. You will learn about American customs and beliefs while practicing English with your host. You will find that practicing English in a real-life context before and after your ESL classes can dramatically increase the rate at which you improve.

Many of our host families have been with us for years and are very experienced at welcoming their international guests. Your family will pick you up at the airport, provide you with a private bedroom and daily breakfast and dinner, and will take you back to the airport at the conclusion of your program. Your family may also include you in their activities and will be happy to provide you with tours and an introduction to Denver and Colorado.
visa

Visa support

We cannot apply for visas on behalf of students. However, the school can supply you with all the documentation you need to support your visa application.

If you are studying full time in the United States for more than 18 hours per week, you will receive an I-20 that you need to submit to the US embassy along with your F-1 student visa application. The I-20 has a SEVIS tracking number on it. Students who wish to apply for a student visa must pay the SEVIS fee online before going to the US embassy or consulate for their visa interview.

Your I-20 will be sent to your home address by regular mail at no charge to you. If you wish to receive your paperwork by express mail, you will be charged $97 when you register.

Please note that United States law states that an I-20 can only be issued to students who intend to pursue full-time English language studies. United States law does not permit students to study part-time with an F-1 Student Visa. If you are studying for less than 18 hours per week, you have to apply for a Visitor Visa (B1/B2) on your own.

Flights and airport transfer

Please note that we do not book flights for our students. If you are researching airfare costs, we recommend using Kayak.com, a search engine that lets you compare flight options from your home country to Denver based on your budget, schedule and preferences.
